Job Summary:
The Sales Application Engineer (SAE) provides technical sales and full product lifecycle technical support for portfolio of solutions. Partners with Account Managers, Business Unit Managers, and Systems Engineers to prospect and qualify opportunities, expand the sales funnel, and close sales. Acts as the technical support focal for prospective and current customers, converting technical solutions into value propositions. Provides field upgrades, troubleshooting, technical presentations, demos, and supports trade shows. Constantly evaluates market, industry, and competitive intelligence to inform strategies for proposals, pursuits, and product roadmap. Supports SOW compliance and technical compliance inputs to ensure offerings align with requirements. Provides input into product offering strategies and helps define winning solutions for customers.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend opportunities consistent with company objectives.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide application solutions.
  • Act as technical liaison between customers and Palomar cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Account Managers, Business Unit Managers, and Systems Engineers to align solutions with customer needs and company strategy.
  • Deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and training to customers.
  • Consistently promote Palomar products and value propositions in all customer and industry engagements.
  • Participate in time and territory engagements, including trade shows and conferences, as directed by Account Managers or Business Unit Managers.
  • Assist with proposal writing, responses, and technical sections.
  • Provide input and support for SOW compliance and technical compliance, ensuring proposals meet customer and program requirements.
  • Assist with marketing strategies and updates to marketing collateral including brochures, websites, digital content, and social media presence.
  • Provide technical input for product roadmaps using market/customer/competitor intelligence.
  • Utilize the latest engineering tools to generate drawings and renderings that effectively communicate and promote technical concepts or approaches, and provide hands-on support with prototyping activities.
  • Help draft and inform product offerings to define winning solutions for pursuits.
  • Deliver full product lifecycle technical support, including field sustainment, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
  • Support integration and verification discussions with engineering teams to align customer requirements with Palomar solutions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge via training, publications, and networks.
Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in aerospace avionics technical sales, applications engineering, or related technical support.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline strongly preferred.
  • Systems engineering experience in requirements analysis, system integration, verification, or compliance (DO-178C/DO-254) is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with airworthiness certification authorities is highly desirable.
  • Experience with aviation communication equipment, intercom, or radio systems preferred.
  • Military/Defense avionics experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to discuss highly technical concepts and translate into customer value propositions.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical, marketing, and sales documents.
  • Proficiency with MBSE or requirements management tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS, Visure) is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on problems of diverse scope requiring evaluation and judgment.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to travel to support customer meetings, sales events, and field support at customer sites (up to 50%).
  • US Citizenship required. Active security clearance is preferred, or ability to obtain and maintain clearance..
Levels

Sales Application Engineer II (Experienced/Independent)
  • Experience: 5–8 years in aerospace avionics technical sales, applications engineering, or related technical support.
  • Scope: Works independently on customer-facing activities, technical proposals, and field support. Manages multiple opportunities simultaneously with minimal oversight.
  • Responsibilities: Leads technical presentations, proposal inputs, SOW/technical compliance reviews, and supports roadmap strategy. Participates actively in time/territory planning with Account Managers and BUMs. Provides consistent updates on competitive intelligence.

Sales Application Engineer III (Senior/Strategic)
  • Experience: 8–12+ years in aerospace avionics technical sales, systems engineering, or applications engineering.
  • Scope: Senior-level technical sales leader managing high-value pursuits and capture activities with major strategic impact. Acts as a key advisor to Account Managers and Business Unit Managers on technical strategies and solutions.
  • Responsibilities: Provides leadership in shaping proposal strategy, pricing support, SOW and technical compliance, and product offering alignment. Defines and drives winning technical solutions, participates in industry events at a senior level, and ensures integration of customer needs into long-term product roadmaps.
Salary Range $90,000.00 - $160,000.00
 
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear and occasionally required to climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities usually required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment floor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Travel required up to 50%.
